Upcoming Blood Drive

We’re teaming up with the American Red Cross next month to host a blood drive in Hattiesburg at Golden Eagle Hwy 98 Storage.

The Blood Drive will be from 11am – 4pm on Tuesday, March 12, 2013. We are still working out all the details with our local Red Cross event coordinator, but we’re hoping to get enough participation from the community to make it an incredibly fun event, with possible prize giveaways, food, and music!

We’ll continue to update this post throughout the planning process and will post status updates on our Facebook page as soon as we have more info posted. Please like our facebook page so you can know the moment we’ve got more to share!

Google Plus Local Reviews: A Tutorial for our Self Storage Customers

Over the past year, we’ve made tons of new and exciting changes to the way we operate our facilities, communicate with customers, and give back to our local communities. We give most of the credit to you and the many others who shared their Tellus Self Storage experiences online by reviewing our storage facilities.

Each online review that our customers leave online for any of our storage facilities is given the utmost attention by our home office staff, district managers, and especially our facility managers! They are truly the primary source of inspiration for all of our greatest achievements in 2012, and we definitely want to keep up this momentum. So keep the reviews coming – we assure you that your voice will be heard!

For those of you who consider yourselves “technically challenged”, we wrote an easy tutorial on how to leave a review in less than 5 minutes on Google Plus. Our storage facility managers also have printed copies of a summarized version of this tutorial for your at your local storage facility, so make sure to ask for your copy!

Google Review Tutorial

Step 1: Signing in/Signing up

Virtually every major online review website requires you to have an account with them first in order to post a review, and Google Plus is no exception. If you already have a Google Plus account, go ahead and skip down to Step 2; otherwise, please continue reading Step 1.

Go to www.google.com > type Google Plus into the search bar and then click the Google Search button.
At the top of the page, click on the first listing you see for Google plus in your search results to get to the login/sign-up page for Google Plus.
Click the red “sign-up” button in the top right-hand corner of the screen. *If you already have a Google account but have never created a Google plus profile, simply sign-in to your Google account here.
You should now see a form appear. Fill out as much of the form as possible and click the Next Step button when you are done. On the next pages, Google will ask for more details about you (to help provide a more personalized experience for you based on your interests and location), but feel free to skip most/all of this if desired. Keep clicking through this a few times to complete the profile setup process.
Yay! You now have a Google Plus profile now, so go ahead and sign in to it and let’s move on to step 2.

Step 2: Finding Your Storage Facility on Google + Local

Now that you have signed in to your Google Plus account, you should see a menu of large icons on the left side of your screen. Find and click on the Local icon. This brings you to a special Google Search page that specifically searches for Google Plus Business pages based on its location.
In the search box on the left, type your facility’s name (ex: “Community Self Storage”) and then type its city and state (ex: Walker, LA) in the box on the right. Don’t forget to Click the search button!
Find your storage facility’s Google + Local listing in the search results and click on it to open its profile page
On your storage facility’s profile page, find and click on the big blue button labeled “Write a Review”. Rate your facility on a scale of 1-5 stars, then share a brief description of your overall experience with our facility (Google prefers that you leave feedback that’s at least 2 full sentences.)
When you’re done writing your review, click Publish. You’re all done!

If you have any trouble with this tutorial, you may contact your facility manager and have him/her walk you through the process.

A Successful Hattiesburg Toy Drive!

Despite the late start on our Toys for Tots Toy Drive, it was a true success!

Thanks to the generosity of so many Hattiesburg residents, our Toys for Tots donation box was overflowing with toys, worth an estimated total amount of over $500! All the toys were then picked up by our local Toys for Tots coordinator and were given to underprivileged children in the Hattiesburg area.

Our Hattiesburg storage facility managers send their thanks to everyone who supported our cause.

Bringing Holiday Cheer to Less Fortunate “Little Ones”

Tellus Self Storage is excited to celebrate another holiday season by participating in the Toys for Tots campaign. This year, we will be collecting toys at all of our Self Storage locations in the Hattiesburg MS area.

Starting Friday, December 1, we’ll be accepting toy donations during normal business hours at any of our 6 Hattiesburg, MS Self Storage facilities, and will continue accepting donations until Friday, December 14. Office hours vary at each location, so we recommend that you check our main website or contact your property manager to confirm.

When to Donate

Tips for Getting Started in Storage Auction Hunting

With the popularity of our blog post, Storage Auctions 101, we felt the need to elaborate a bit more on the storage auction process and answer some general questions we get asked a lot about our auctions. If you are new to auction hunting, listed below are some helpful tips to help you get started.

Call the property before you head to the auction to confirm that it is still going on. You don’t want to waste your time driving to a cancelled auction. The storage facility will cancel an auction if the owner shows up and pays the storage bill up to five minutes before the scheduled start time.
Wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dusty and dirty. If you win the auction for a unit you will need to clean out all the contents within 24 hours for most auctions. You should be prepared for cleaning out the unit by bringing a truck or trailer and moving gear to remove all contents of the unit in a timely fashion.
Bring a high-power flashlight so that you can see all the way to the back of the unit you are bidding on. All bidders will have the opportunity to view the storage units for sale, but the exact contents of the units will probably remain out of sight, hidden and packed away in boxes and storage bins.
Set your investment budget ahead of time and bring cash. Storage auctions will only accept cash as payment for the storage unit you have won. Setting a budget helps you stay on track and avoids getting caught up in a bidding war for a unit that may hold low value content. For example, a unit containing furniture, electronics, and labeled boxes may bring in a higher resale value than a unit that contains poorly organized or haphazard contents.

The Tellus Self Storage auction schedules are posted monthly on the Tellus Facebook fan page under the Events tab and are updated in real time. Click on the “Going” link to add your name to the list and get updated by Facebook when there is a change in the number of units scheduled or if the auction has been cancelled.
