Cycling is a popular method of getting around town and exercising. With the proper care and maintenance, a bike can last as long as 30 years or longer. Bicycles are popular amongst every age group, from toddlers to senior citizens. There are over a billion bike riders worldwide, and they save gallons of gas by riding bikes.
If you don’t have a garage and live in a place that usually has terrible weather, a storage unit will be a terrific alternative for protecting your bike. Storage units are also more secure for your bike than leaving it outside, where it can be stolen or tampered with. The security of a storage unit should save you some stress of finding out your bike is gone when you’re about to ride it to work.
Bikes need a dry, clean climate to help ensure that the chains, tires, wheels, seat, handle, and other parts last as long as possible.
Bicycles also need to be cleaned before being placed in storage. Simply scrubbing the bike with soap and water should do the trick for any stains, dirt, and dust. Also, don’t forget to lubricate the chain and other metal after washing and drying it to prevent any rust on the chain. Be sure to coat the metals with lightweight grease.
While not required, covering your bike will also add an extra layer of protection from dirt and dust for your bike in storage.
Before taking your bike out for a ride after being stored, do a maintenance check by tightening the bolts, screws, and torque of any other part that upholds your bike. Re-lubricate the chains and check to ensure the brakes are working before riding.
Tellus Self Storage Oak Grove is a great place to store your bicycles. We’re also nearby the Longleaf Trace, which is a 44-mile trail that’s popular for cyclists.
