REMINDER: PEST PREVENTION STARTS WITH YOU

Self-Storage

Here are three things you can do to remediate pests when using self-storage. Of course, there are many choices for where to store your belongings, and we at Tellus Self Storage take pride in spreading awareness when it comes to the dos and don’ts of self-storage. Here are the top three things that you should be mindful of when placing items in storage. Do not use food boxes (boxes previously used to transport food items.) When gathering boxes for your items, be sure to ignore all food boxes. Banana boxes produce boxes, chip, or drink boxes are all no-nos. Why? Because while we might not smell any food residue on these boxes, pests like rats and mice can. Moisture from produce gets absorbed into the cardboard and becomes like a lighthouse for hungry critters. Avoid future headaches by simply steering clear of these storage containers. Pick the correct type of storage for your belongings. Evaluate what types of items you will be storing and for how long. Our knowledgeable staff can help determine the correct type of storage for your needs. If it is in your home or air conditioning before you store, store in climate control. Items from your garage or shed outside are ideal for non-climate storage units. Be mindful of what should not be stored. Scented candles or waxes, dried flowers or pasta, and food of any kind are three items that do not belong in storage. Smells from these items will attract pests looking for food. Additionally, you should try and store any bedding, fabrics, or clothes in plastic totes to help deter pests or insects from making nests in them. Of course, a week or two in a plastic bag might not hurt them. However, a more extended stay in plastic bag storage might also result in mold and mildew. We encourage you to take the time to protect your items. After all, you are paying to have them stored. Please do everything you can to ensure that they retain ...

DISC LOCKS: WHY ARE THEY SO IMPORTANT.

Self-Storage

Why are disc locks so important?? In this article we will discuss a few key reasons why you should use disc locks. DISC LOCKS AN OVERVIEW Disc locks were originally created specifically for storage units. They are much safer than regular pad locks. They are designed with only a small opening in the shackle, which makes cutting the lock very difficult. Disc locks are designed to be used in any type of climate. They are stainless steel, which keeps the lock from rusting due to rain or humidity. They are designed with three small holes in the body of the lock to allow the water to drain out in case it gets wet. Disc locks are also made not only for storage but also for other uses, such as tool boxes, sheds, trailer boxes, and much more. They are also inexpensive, to insure everyone can get one. If your belongings are worth storing then they are worth spending an extra 10.00 to make sure they are safe as possible. They come with two or three keys. You can also purchase blank keys from the office if you need to get extra keys made. Tellus self-storage provides disc locks and other moving supplies you can purchase to make your move simple and quick. Tellus sales boxes of all sizes, mattress covers, wrapping paper and much more. Be sure to consider Tellus Self Storage for all of your self storage needs. Aside from disc locks we also offer the use of our Free Move-In Truck. 5 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE YOU RENT A SELF STORAGE UNIT

Self-Storage

Here is a list of 5 things you should know before renting a storage unit. THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU MOVE INTO STORAGE Accessibility: Most of our Tellus Self Storage facilities have 24 hour access, however there are a few that have restricted hours. When looking for a storage facility be sure to check the hours. Ensuring that you can access your items on your schedule will help alleviate some of the worry and stress that is associated with placing items into storage. Pricing: Prices vary from location to location as well as by sizes. If you aren’t sure what size storage unit you need we suggest the Storage Calculator. Additionally you can also talk to one of our Storage Experts to determine the best size storage unit for your needs. Availability: Even if you happen to find the perfect storage facility you will need to verify that they have available storage units. It is a good idea to start your search for a storage unit as soon as you find out you need a storage unit. While some times of the year are busier than others, the earlier you know the better your chances of getting into the storage unit of your choice. Additionally there might be some discounts that you just miss out on if you don’t act quickly. Location: Make sure that the storage unit you pick is in a good location. Convenient for you to access, as well as near to where you will be (if possible). Also be sure to check the lighting of the facility, if you spot any lights out let the Property  Manager know. Reviews: While experiences vary from person to person and location to location we do suggest you check  reviews then address any concerns you have with the Property Manager of your facility. Negative reviews might hold a grain of truth but the person leaving them might also be angry and exaggerated. Have an open mind when reading reviews and also be sure to ask. This self ...

HOW YOU CAN IMPROVE SECURITY AT YOUR SELF STORAGE FACILITY

Self-Storage

Security is a very important, as a tenant there are a few things that you can do to help improve the security at your storage facility. Let’s take a look at them now.  WHY IS SECURITY YOUR JOB? SHOULDN’T IT BE THE STORAGE FACILITIES? The security of your storage facility lies with multiple parties, including you the tenant. Why? Because if you see something you should say something. In addition to this here are three things you can do to help ensure the security of your property. Lights Should you spot any lights that are out, missing, or malfunctioning tell your Property Manager. There is no way to tell when a light goes out, it could’ve been working that morning but then died by the time you got there at night. This is especially important for lights on the outside of the buildings and in the driveways. Doors Make sure that when you enter and exit the facility the doors close behind you. This is including but not limited to the climate control doors as well as the entry and exit gates. By ensuring that doors are closed properly you help prevent people from entering the facility or areas of the facility that they should not be in. Keep your gate codes safe and only share them with people who have access to your storage unit, or not at all. Trash Do not leave your trash around the property, it creates an opportunity for people who don’t belong to come in and take things. If you have larger items that you no longer want please talk to the Property Manager about where you can dispose of them. Keeping the property clean is a team effort and we appreciate your help with this.Basically, all we are saying here is to be mindful of the environment. Report broken lights, doors or piles of trash that have been left behind. Especially if you are visiting the property on the weekend. Call our 800 number and leave a message if no ...
