Jackson, Mississippi, is often overlooked in favor of larger, more well-known Southern cities like Memphis, New Orleans, and Atlanta. However, those who take the time to explore Jackson will find a vibrant and unique city with a rich history and culture.

One of the things that makes Jackson special is its location. Situated in the heart of Mississippi, the city is surrounded by beautiful natural landscapes, including the Natchez Trace Parkway and the Ross Barnett Reservoir. Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty of hiking, fishing, and boating opportunities in the area.

Jackson is also home to a thriving arts scene, with numerous galleries, museums, and theaters. There are numerous community events and festivals throughout the year, including the Mississippi State Fair and the Jackson Rhythm and Blues Festival.

There is a stable job market in Jackson. The top five industries are manufacturing, healthcare, education, banking, & agriculture. Two major employers in the metro are Continental Tire and Nissan.

There are opportunities for higher education in the metro in schools such as Jackson State University, Belhaven University, Millsap University, Mississippi College, Hinds Community College, Tougaloo College, Holmes Community College, and the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

For our sports fans, there is an AA Atlanta Braves affiliate called the Mississippi Braves across the Pearl River. The local colleges play some excellent ball as well. Jackson State’s football games provide an electric gameday environment with great attendance numbers, and their band is called the Sonic Boom of the South, which has some of the best band performances in the nation.

Of course, like any city, Jackson has its challenges, but that shouldn’t discourage you from seeing the upsides of Jackson.
