Frequently Asked Questions

Renting a Unit

Storage Features

How do I decide which size storage unit I need?

If you’re unsure of exactly how much storage space you require, contact your local Tellus Self Storage facility manager, or call our toll-free number at 1-800-773-6691.

You can also use our handy storage calculator to help you figure out the right size storage unit for your needs.

How do I rent a storage unit?

For your convenience, we offer three different ways to rent a storage unit.

  1. Drop by our storage facility during office hours and a facility manager will give you a tour of our facility and move you in to a storage unit that meets your needs.
  2. Reserve (hold) a storage unit online by clicking on the “Reserve a Unit” button. You will then be contacted by a member of the storage facility’s management team, who will confirm your reservation and schedule your move-in.
  3. Contact your local Tellus Self Storage facility by phone to reserve or rent a storage unit. You will still need to stop by the office to finalize paperwork and to receive your Gate Code. If you happen to reserve the unit through our after-hours Call Center, the call center representative will provide you with a temporary gate code and that will enable you to move in immediately.

Do you require a long-term commitment to rent a storage unit?

Leases are month-to-month and there is no minimum to stay, however we do offer specials for long-term rentals.

What kind of documentation do I need to rent a storage unit?

You will need to bring a valid form of I.D. and a copy of your homeowner or renter insurance declaration page. We can also provide information on an alternate tenant insurance program.

Can I rent a storage unit after hours?

Yes! Our Call Center is open 7 days a week and ready to help you choose the right storage unit for your needs. Simply call our toll-free number at 1-800-773-6691 any day between 7:30 am – 7:00 pm.

What documentation do I need to store my vehicle?

You will need to provide your vehicle registration, title, and proof of auto insurance.

What is a climate-controlled storage unit?

Climate-controlled storage units are heated in the winter and cooled in the summer.

Climate-controlled storage is ideal for furniture, electronics and any other household item that shouldn't be kept in extreme hot or cold environments. For household items that you’d usually store in a garage or shed, non-climate controlled storage would suffice.

Are your driveways wide enough to accommodate large vehicles?

Absolutely! All Tellus Self Storage properties have driveways that provide easy drive-up access for even the largest vehicles, including 18-wheelers.

Do your storage units have electricity?

Storage units with electrical outlets and interior lights are available at select locations.

Do you provide moving equipment?

Hand carts or dollies are available at select Tellus Self Storage locations. We also offer a move-in truck at most facilities, FREE with any 10x10 storage unit rental or larger.

What items am I not allowed to store in my storage unit?

You are not allowed to store anything that is flammable, hazardous, toxic, perishable or illegal. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • gasoline
  • propane tanks
  • kerosene lamps
  • motor oil
  • acid grease
  • corrosives
  • fertilizers
  • household or commercial cleansers
  • narcotics
  • hazardous, toxic or biological waste
  • asbestos/asbestos products
  • fireworks or explosives
  • weapons or ammunition
How high are your ceilings?

Our storage units typically have a minimum of 9.5 ft. ceilings.

What is the difference between Gate Access Hours and Office Hours?

Gate access hours – The hours you can access your storage unit. Most locations feature an access-controlled gate that can provide 24-hour access. Contact your facility manager or call our toll-free number to find out when you can access your storage unit.

Office hours – All storage units are accessible during this time. Typically, a facility manager is on the property and ready to assist you during office hours.

What is the difference between an interior storage unit and an exterior storage unit?

Interior storage units are units that are accessed through interior hallways. Because these units are located indoors, they are usually less exposed to dirt, dust, and humidity than exterior units. Interior storage units can be either climate-controlled or non-climate controlled.

Exterior storage units typically feature roll-up doors and are externally accessible. They are a great choice for any storage need that requires easy drive-up access.

Do you sell boxes and moving supplies?

Yes, we do! We sell cardboard boxes, mattress covers, packing peanuts, and virtually any packing supplies you may need at affordable prices. Drop by your facility during normal office hours to check out the full inventory.

Do you have a moving truck that I may use?

We sure do! In fact, our Move-in Trucks are FREE when you rent a 10x10 storage unit or larger! Contact your facility manager for details and availability.
